Synopsis

Dans la Médina de Casablanca, Abla, veuve et mère d'une fillette de 8 ans, tient un magasin de pâtisseries marocaines. Quand Samia, une jeune femme enceinte frappe à sa porte, Abla est loin d'imaginer que sa vie changera à jamais. Une rencontre fortuite du destin, deux femmes en fuite, et un chemin vers l'essentiel.

In the Medina of Casablanca, Abla, a widow and mother of an 8-year-old girl, runs a Moroccan pastry shop. When Samia, a young pregnant woman, knocks on her door, Abla is far from imagining that her life will change forever. A chance meeting of fate, two women in flight, and a path to the essential.

Maryam Touzani est née en 1980 à Tanger où elle passe sa jeunesse. Elle est dans un premier temps journaliste, spécialisée dans le cinéma, après des études à Londres. Puis elle devient scénariste et réalisatrice de courts-métrages et de documentaires. En 2011, son court-métrage Quand ils dorment, est sa première réalisation cinématographique. En 2014, elle filme un documentaire, Sous Ma Vieille Peau / Much Loved, consacré à la prostitution au Maroc. Ce documentaire donne lieu au film Much Loved, sorti en 2015 et réalisé par Nabil Ayouch, pour lequel Touzani participe au scénario.

En 2019, elle réalise son premier long-métrage Adam. Ce dernier est sélectionné pour le festival de Cannes, dans la section Un certain regard, en compétition pour la Queer Palm, et au 12e festival du film francophone d'Angoulême.

Maryam Touzani was born in 1980 in Tangier where she spent her youth. She was initially a journalist, specializing in cinema, after studying in London. Then she became a screenwriter and director of short films and documentaries. In 2011, her short film Quand ils dorment, is her first cinematic endeavor. In 2014, she made the documentary, Sous Ma Vieille Peau / Much Loved, focusing on prostitution in Morocco. This documentary gave rise to the film Much Loved, released in 2015 and directed by Nabil Ayouch, for which Maryam Touzani participated in developing the script.

In 2019, she directed her first feature film Adam, which was selected at the Cannes festival in the Un Certain Regard section; it was in competition for the Queer Palm, and was presented at the 12th edition of the Angoulême francophone film festival.
