Writer/Director/Photographer Tala Hadid has made several short films, including Tes Cheveux Noirs Ihsan, which received an Academy Award and won the Panorama Best short Film Award at the Berlin Film Festival. She has also made various documentaries including Sacred Poet on Pier Paolo Pasolini. Her work has shown at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, L’Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, the Goteberg Kunsthalle in Sweden, the Goethe Institute/Cairo, the Los Angeles County Museum, Zoom Art Fair/Miami/Basel, la Cinémathèque Française in Paris, the Seville Biennale, the Jonathan Schorr Gallery NYC and the Photographer’s Gallery in London. Last year the Fine Art photography publisher Stern published a volume of a selection of Hadid’s photographs as part of its Stern Fotografie Portfolio series of emerging photographers.

Tala Hadid, écrivain, cinéaste, photographe a réalisé plusieurs courts métrages, dont Tes Cheveux Noirs Ihsan, qui a reçu un Academy Award et a remporté le prix Panorama du Meilleur Court Métrage au Festival du Film de Berlin. Elle a aussi réalisé différents documentaires, notamment Sacred Poet sur Pier Paolo Pasolini. Son travail a été exposé au Museum of Modern Art de New York, à L’Institut du Monde Arabe de Paris, au Goteberg Kunsthalle (Suède), au Goethe Institute du Caire, au Musée County de Los Angeles, au Zoom Art Fair/Miami/Basel, à la Cinémathèque Française (Paris), à la Biennale de Seville, à la galerie Jonathan Schorr de New York ou encore à la Photographer’s Gallery de Londres. En 2013, la maison d'édition Stern a publié un volume spécial consacré aux photographes émergents contenant une sélection de travaux de Tala Hadid.

Synopsis

[English]

A young orphan, Aïcha, is found alone in the forests of central Morocco. She has a personal history that reveals a courageous attempt at self-determination. Taken and sold from her home in the hills of the Atlas mountains, Aïcha finds herself at the mercy of a petty criminal, Abbas, and his conflicted girlfriend, Nadia. They soon cross paths with Zacaria, a Moroccan/Iraqi writer, who has left everything behind - including a passionate relationship with a teacher, Judith - to search for his missing brother. The group embarks on a journey that will lead them across Morocco to Istanbul, the plains of Kurdistan and beyond.

Une jeune orpheline, Aicha, erre seule à travers les plaines du centre du Maroc. On découvre qu'elle a une histoire personnelle qui révèlent une tentative courageuse d'acquérir son indépendance. Enlevée des collines du Maroc rural, où elle a grandi, puis vendue, Aicha se retrouve à la merci d'Abbas, petit délinquant, et de sa copine Nadia. Ils se croisent avec Zacaria, écrivain Marocain/Irakien désabusé, qui a tout laissé derrière lui, y compris une relation passionnée avec une enseignante, Judith, pour se lancer dans une quête spirituelle, en cherchant son frère disparu. Le groupe s'embarque sur un voyage qui les mènent à travers le Maroc, à Istanbul, les plaines de Kurdistan et au delà.
