Media, Film and Gender Advocacy Workshop 24th February to 5 March 2014 (South Africa)

Media, Film and Gender Advocacy Workshop
24 February to 05 March 2014

Press release:

Recognising the power of visual media to transform societies, Sonke Gender Justice, MenEngage Africa, the Women’s Health and Research Unit (UCT) as well as Steps for the Future and Witness are convening an eight day workshop on the use of film for gender equality and human rights.

This workshop will bring together organisations that make and use films to address a variety of social issues. The Media, Film and Gender Advocacy Workshop will be facilitated by a host of guest speakers who are leaders in the fields of gender, health, human rights, media and film and will build a network of organisations or groups who use film as a tool for social change on the African continent. A key focus area will be the portrayal of men and masculinities in film and media and how these relate to issues of gender equality and human rights.

The hosts are hereby calling for organisations that make films (documentaries, digital stories, amateur or professional) to send a letter of interest which details what films they have made (attaching clips where possible) and explaining how the workshop would be of benefit). This workshop is fully funded including flights, meals and accommodation for the duration of the workshop.  Limited spaces available.

Please address your letter of interest, or any enquiries to Tanya Charles at: tanyac@genderjustice.org.za CORRECTED ADDRESS
