7 JOURS POUR 1 FILM (l'Atelier cinéma au féminin en Afrique) 7 days for a film, is a woman-focused film workshop in Africa, with a focus in Francophone regions:
"7 jours pour 1 film" is an itinerant program whose objective is to discover, train and promote women who have an interest in being more active in the film industry, particularly in Africa. The program's vision is to support the creation of quality work and to train the award winners in the film production process through writing, preparation, creation and broadcast. The program's ambition, which at the same time is organized as a competition, is a training course and a film production tool, thus providing the laureates with multidisciplinary skills in the film industry.
Olga Tiyon, production and communication coordinator of "7 jours pour 1 film", emphasizes the importance of framing gender broadly in all aspects of the filmmaking process:
"I represent the project, '7 jours pour 1 film' a cinema workshop, a free and itinerant operation in Africa to discover and promote the cinematographic and audiovisual talents of tomorrow. In Africa there is a creative energy that needs to be exposed. However, in the call for scripts, men were much more likely than women to apply, hence parity is much more difficult. Out of the 100 scripts, there were 10 by women and 90 by men. As a result, by putting more emphasis on gender, it is easier for these women to enter areas in which they do not have easy access."
