Going down memory lane, the Luxor African Film Festival recalls the 10 years since its launch in 2012, during which it has invited illustrious figures of African Cinema, with a specific focus on Africa south of the Sahara. Among the luminaries of African cinema featured in its From the Memory of LAFF, the African Women in Cinema Blog highlights two women.

In 2016 Senegalese anthropologist/filmmaker Safi Faye was honored with a trophy in tribute to her life work and accomplishments in African cinema. Moreover, at its first edition, in the Afro-Cinema Pathway category, Safi Faye's 1975 classic Peasant Letter was featured at the festival.

In 2019, the Luxor African Film Festival made a tribute to Tunisian filmmaker, producer and organizer Dora Bouchoucha, who, since 1994 has produced several films such as Sabria by Abderrahmane Cissako, Saison des hommes by Moufida Tlatli, Baraket by Jamila Sahraoui and Satin Rouge by Raja Amar. In addition, she has served as director of JCC, the Carthage Film Festival. For the 2019 edition, the LAFF held a conference in Dora Bouchoucha's honor with the screening of her film Heda.
