Eliaichi Kimaro: Tracing her Tanzanian roots in "A Lot Like You"

In the 2 August 2012 NPR/National Public Radio interview with Michel Martin, Eliaichi Kimaro talks about her documentary A Lot Like You. "There's something that's very, very powerful and very primal about the desire to connect with people through story, which is why I love the title of our film, A Lot Like You. I came to see a lot of myself in my aunts when I wasn't expecting to. I came to see a lot of myself in my dad in ways that were surprising to me."

Filmmaker Eliaichi Kimaro, a first-generation American of a Tanzanian father and Korean mother, both economists, tells a personal history tracing her Tanzanian roots. Upon retirement, her father returns to Tanzania; she follows him with her camera discovering a side of the family she knew little about. Eliaichi Kimaro: Sur les traces de ses racines tanzaniennes

Dans une interview radiophonique en anglais avec Michel Martin sur NPR/National Public Radio, le 2 aout 2012, Eliaichi Kimaro parle de son film documentaire A Lot Like You. « Le désir de se connecter avec les gens à travers l'histoire est très fort, quelque chose de primordial. C'est la raison pour laquelle j'aime beaucoup le titre de notre film, A Lot Like You (tellement comme vous). Je ne m'attendais pas de retrouver dans mes tantes autant de moi-même. Ainsi avec mon père, j'ai été étonnée de voir autant de ressemblances. »

La réalisatrice Eliaichi Kimaro, américaine de première génération avec un père tanzanien et une mère coréenne, tous deux économistes, raconte une histoire personnelle en traçant ses racines tanzaniennes. À la retraite, son père rentre en Tanzanie, elle le suit avec sa caméra pour retrouver une partie de sa famille qu'elle ne connaissait pas.
