Synopsis
In a traditional West African family, Ami, a studious and discreet 17 year-old, suffers from an oppressive secret. One evening, as the whole family comes together during dinner, Ami decides not to let it go any longer.
Dans une famille d'origine ouest africaine, où les traditions sont de rigueur, Ami , 17 ans, subit les agressions sexuelles de son oncle paternel à l'insu de sa mère. Un soir, alors que sa sœur et son mari viennent dîner à la maison, Ami décide de ne plus se laisser faire.
Douleur silencieuse, le premier court métrage de la réalisatrice franco-guinéenne Aïssa Diaby a été retenu et projeté au Short Film Corner du festival de Cannes 2022.

Synopsis
This film recounts the story of Abdoulaye Ouédraogo, a Burkinabé migrant who has been missing for years. Idrissa Ouédraogo, his brother, and his children Adama and Awa, set out to find him, traveling through Burkina Faso, Senegal and Guinea-Bissau. Through their odyssey, a journey of initiation and discovery, we are plunged into the heart of a family story, a quest for identity and origins.
Ce film raconte l’histoire d’un migrant burkinabé, Abdoulaye Ouédraogo, porté disparu pendant des années. Idrissa Ouédraogo, son frère, et ses enfants Adama et Awa, partent à sa recherche en parcourant le Burkina Faso, le Sénégal et la Guinée-Bissau. Leur périple, tel un voyage initiatique et de découvertes, nous plonge au cœur d’une histoire de famille, d’une quête d’identité et d’origines.

The Story Circle programme is for women screenwriters/filmmakers from Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, who have a strong idea for a short film that can be developed and produced over the next year and screened during the 2023 Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Supported by the British Council, this project is part of our 75th anniversary activity.
2022 participants in The Story Circle are:
- Janet Nsabuwera from Uganda
- Sarah Kyomugisha from Uganda
- Lydia Matata from Kenya
- Hope Wanjiku from Kenya
EIFF will work with United in Film who support emerging film talent through their filmmaking workshops, to deliver two online story development workshops in September and October to help expand the participants understanding of story structure and character development.
There will then be an in-person residential workshop in Uganda where story editors will work with the participants to move the projects forward to a full script.
Each of the writers will then receive a financial commission to allow them to make their film in their local region with support from United in Film.

Abstract
The influential film La Noire de… by Ousmane Sembene released in 1966, offers a range of themes for a discussion on afro-descendant women and their myriad experiences in relationship to France. The project that this article undertakes encompasses the period around the time of its release to the present. The challenge that it lays for itself is imbedded in a caveat posed as a question: What does the title even mean in the context of a “France” and more particularly a “Paris” that is often viewed as a “fantasy,” but is a real, concrete place—with its contradictions and faults, promise and hope? Who is this discursive cohort of afro-descendant women—negotiating their place in the country/the capital: as student, expatriate, citizen, first-generation diasporan, third-culture “glocal” transplant, traveler, immigrant, migrant? The films selected to problematize these questions set the framework for this discussion.

Hawa, une adolescente de 15 ans, part à la recherche d’un nouveau tuteur quand sa grand-mère, avec qui elle vit, tombe gravement malade. Le jour où elle apprend qu’une star internationale fait un déplacement en France, elle se lance dans une impossible quête afin de la convaincre de l’adopter.
Hawa by Maïmouna Doucouré, co-produced by Amazon Studios, is in competition at the 46th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2022.
Hawa, who is 15 years old sets out in search of a new guardian after her grandmother, with whom she lives, becomes seriously ill. The moment she learns that an international star will be traveling to France, she embarks on an impossible quest to convince her to adopt her.
